Menu Settings

The Menu Settings view is used to control what data is displayed in the List View, including Window title, Search Fields, Sort fields, and the Record description information.
Within the client application, the placement of titles and descriptions will vary from device to device.

In this section, the iPad client is be used to explain layout functions and location.


To display the menu settings for a module:

  1. Select Menu Settings in the Navigation Menu on the left of the page.
  2. Select the Module you wish to change or view settings for in the Navigation Menu, below the Menu Settings heading.



The following table describes where each of the values are used and some conditions you should be aware of when selecting displayed values:

Values

Description

Menu Alias

Usually a singular name.
This is used in the Related Lists area of the application when referring to a parent object as only one parent object can exist.
The value entered is also used within the Admin application and is the name used to identify Modules.
This value is also used in the title of a form when creating new records.

List Alias

Usually plural, as more than one record can exist in each section.
This is used in the Related Lists area of the application when referring to child objects or associated fields.
Used in the Navigation Bar on the left of the client when naming Top Level Objects.
Used in the List View title bar.

Window Title Fields

This may contain up to three fields, which will be displayed in the title bar of the Data View, when a record is selected.
Usually only one value is selected, due to the restricted amount of space available in title bars.

Search Fields

This is the list of fields that the user may use to search for records.
You may search based on parent or child records.

Sort Fields

Section used to allow the user to determine how the List Fields are sorted, e.g. by Contact First Name, by Company Name, by Part Number, etc.

Record Description Fields

Can contain up to six fields, displayed in the List View below the title bar.
The first field in the top row is highlighted in the client application using large bold text, the two fields to the right are in a large font, but not in bold.
Wrapping of text in the first row is available using the checkbox. This would enable you to display long names in bold type.
The second row can display secondary information in a smaller font.
Although six fields are available, the amount of space within the list view will restrict the number of fields that can effectively be utilized.
To have a blank spot in between two fields, use the BLANK available in the dropdown list.





To update the values stored, use the following procedure:

  1. Select Menu Settings in the Navigation Menu on the left of the page.
  2. Select the Module you wish to change or view settings for in the Navigation Menu, below the Menu Settings heading.
  3. Use the drop down boxes to select fields to be displayed in the display Fields.
  4. Click Submit to save changes.
  5. Click Yes to confirm changes in the pop up confirmation box.
